ACV Enviro is honored to announce our certification by the Gold Shovel Standard. Certification is based on our commitment to excavation safety and our record of success. As their organization explains:
Gold Shovel Standard (GSS) is a nonprofit organization committed to improving workforce and public safety and the integrity of buried infrastructure. GSS believes that greater transparency in all aspects of damage prevention among buried asset operators, locators and excavators is essential to drive continuous improvement, and vital to increasingly safe working conditions and communities.
In the U.S., every six minutes an underground utility line is damaged during excavation work, resulting in millions of damages. A company holding a Gold Shovel Standard certification has demonstrated, by the Safety Management System put forth by the organization, a baseline commitment to safety around buried infrastructure. Safe excavation practices result in fewer injuries, less property damage, inconvenient outages, project delays and high costs.
“The safety of our employees, customers and the communities we serve is our top priority,” said Donna Miller, SVP EHS. “Earning the Gold Shovel certification is an amazing achievement for our organization and a testament to our safety culture at ACV Enviro. We are proud of our team.”
ACV believes every team member is vital to our safety goals. We train our employees to avoid unsafe situations and to take immediate action as soon as a situation starts to become unsafe with our Safe or Stop program. We actively seek input from our team to find ways to make jobs safer and more comfortable to perform, while equipping our team with the tools they need to work safely.
The Golden Shovel Standard certification is evidence ACV’s commitment to safety works. The GSS’s independent verification of our safety record provides reassurance that we are on the right track. We recognize; however, the work of safety is never done. This certification is only a small part of our story, while the larger part is making good on our commitment to zero accidents or injuries on our job sites “Driving to Zero”.
That’s a commitment we strive for daily.
